Who is behind the rubber duck – and why we need as little data as possible.

The short version

  • No ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics. We only count visits to the website anonymously on our own server.
  • No cookies. At most, the website remembers your language choice – inside your browser.
  • No sign-up, no account. Settings and purchased ducks stay on your device.
  • Purchases are handled by Google Play and the App Store. We never see payment details.
  • We do not collect personal information from children.
  • If you write to us, we only use your email address to reply.

Privacy policy

This policy applies to the website www.crazy-rubber-duck.com (also available at crazy-rubber-duck.de) and to the app “Crazy Rubber Duck” for Android, iPhone and iPad. We built both so that as little data as possible is involved.

2. Website

Visiting the website

When you visit the website, your browser sends technically necessary information to our server: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the amount of data transferred, the previously visited page, and your browser and operating system. The server stores this information in log files so that we can run the website securely and reliably and fend off attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is secure operation. The logs are deleted automatically after 10 days.

Visitor statistics

From the log files, the program GoAccess creates visitor statistics on our own server: how often which pages are viewed, which browsers and devices are used and which sites visitors come from. For this, IP addresses are shortened (the last block of IPv4 addresses and the rear part of IPv6 addresses are removed). The statistics set no cookies, build no profiles, are password-protected and visible only to us; we pass nothing on to third parties. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is understanding how the website is used and improving it.

Hosting

The website and our email run on a server that we rent from netcup GmbH, Emmy-Noether-Straße 10, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany. netcup processes the data on our behalf under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR.

No cookies, no tracking

The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking services from other providers. Fonts, pictures, sounds and music come from our own server; nothing is loaded from Google Fonts or other third parties.

Remembered language

If you choose a language in the language menu or close the language hint, the website saves this choice in your browser's storage (local storage, entry “crdLang”), so the right language opens on your next visit. The entry never leaves your browser and is not sent to us; you can delete it at any time in your browser settings. The legal basis is Section 25 (2) no. 2 of the German TDDDG, because storing it is strictly necessary for the function you asked for.

Read aloud

The read-aloud feature uses the speech output of your browser or device. We prefer voices that run directly on your device. If your browser only offers online voices for a language (for example some voices by Google or Microsoft), the provider of your browser generates the speech and receives the text to be read and your IP address. We have no influence on this; the privacy policy of your browser provider applies.

Links to Google Play and the App Store

The download buttons are plain links. Only when you tap one does the page of Google or Apple open; their privacy policies then apply.

Email buttons

“Suggest a duck”, “Report a bug” and “Praise & ideas” only open your email app with a subject line. The website itself sends and stores nothing.

3. App

No sign-up, no ads, no tracking

The app needs no account and asks for no personal information. It contains no advertising and no analytics, tracking or advertising software from third parties. It does not access the camera, microphone, location, contacts or photos.

Data on your device

The app stores settings (such as language, sound, difficulty and play break), the duck counters and purchased content only on your device. We never receive this data. If the app is deleted, it is gone.

In-app purchases

Purchases and restoring purchases are handled by Google Play (Google Ireland Limited) or the App Store (Apple Distribution International Ltd.). This is the only reason the app connects to the internet. We do not receive payment details; the stores only provide us with sales reports. The privacy policies of Google and Apple apply. Before every purchase, the app asks a grown-up (parental gate).

Store statistics

Apple and Google provide app publishers with aggregated statistics, for example about downloads and crashes. We only receive crash reports if you have agreed to share them in your device settings. We cannot identify individual people from them.

Contact from the app

Under “Contact & wishes” you can prepare a message. The app then opens your email app and adds the app version, system and language so that we can help better with problems. Nothing is sent until you send the email yourself. Everything that leaves the app – email, store rating and these pages – is protected by a parental gate.

4. When you write to us

If you send us an email, we process your email address and the content of your message in order to answer it (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR for questions about the app and purchases, otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). We delete the message once the conversation is over and no statutory retention obligations apply.

5. Children

Crazy Rubber Duck is made for children aged 3 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child writes to us, we use the address for a single reply only and delete the message afterwards. More under Children's privacy.

6. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Just write to us at quack (at) crazy-rubber-duck.com. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

7. Security

The website and downloads are transferred encrypted via HTTPS.

8. Changes

We update this policy when the app or the website changes.
